Secret Garden a quality production
A cast of 36 students of the Island Discover Learning Community, from Kindergarten to Grade 9, is preparing for a production of the musical The Secret Garden, written by Tim Kelly, with music by Bill Francoeur and licensed from Pioneer Drama Service. Shows will run on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, 2 p.m.at Tir-na-nOg Theatre and are suitable for an audience of five years and up.
Unfortunately, all three shows were sold out at press time. Allan Saugstad is directing the musical and said, "I want to thank Susanne Koeplin, our stage manager, Gail Lotenberg for her help with the choreography, and parents Michelle and Matthew Harrison for their help with sets. Kudos to all the parents who helped their kids learn their parts and got them to so, so many rehearsals. And lastly to the kids, who have dedicated so much time to creating a quality production."
Saugstad said that the quality of this show is also a testament to homeschooling. "Most kids who homeschool spend less time worrying about fitting in and being cool, and more time being their own unique, creative selves. These kids have no problem acting, singing and dancing in front of a crowd, and their confidence shows," he said. "They are a delight to watch, and to direct."
