Much more than a choir
The Bowen Island Community Choir (BICC) is a gathering of voices of islanders, weaving sound scapes under Ellen MacIntosh’s fine artistic direction. It’s a place where lasting friendships grow through a common passion. It is also a nurturing circle and network for newcomers and a forum for musical awareness and the ongoing legacy of music on Bowen Island.
With increasing membership that includes many newcomers, it may not be a well-known fact that the BICC has been performing here for over 20 years.
Established in 1992 by Alison Nixon, we return for the upcoming season to delight audiences under the amazing artistic direction of Ellen MacIntosh and gifted accompanist, Sheilagh Sparks.
The SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir is composed of more than 50 singers. All ages are welcome and no audition is required. If you have never sung before but always wanted to, this is the place for you. If you have sung for years and want to continue, this is the place for you, regardless of whether you can read music or not.
Two concerts are performed at Cates Hill Chapel at Christmas and two are performed in the spring. Memberships cost $85 each for the winter and spring sessions. Practice is every Wednesday night at Cates Hill Chapel, 7:15 sharp, with an occasional Sunday afternoon practice.
Singing is beneficial for the heart, lungs and spirit. It opens pathways to joy and quiets the restless mind.
The choir and board of directors invite you to be part of the music and fun.
Registration and first practice is Wednesday, September 4, at Cates Hill Chapel, 7 p.m. Call Cheryl at 2949 if you need more information.
