You may have noticed Raef Grohne driving around Bowen Island in his 1958 Dodge Power Wagon, a car that stands out for its style, age and great condition.

“It’s a 10-footer, is what they call it,” says Raef, explaning that the truck’s cosmetic flaws become apparent when viewed at a distance any closer than 10 feet. “But it is not what they would call a Trailer Queen, meaning you only ever drive it for in to car shows. I bought it to be my vehicle on Bowen, to haul firewood and sell firewood.”

Raef says that as a photographer, he loves classic cars for their design.

“My wife, Darla, and I moved to Bowen four years ago,” he says. “I kept seeing a variety of classic cars popping up on the road and started thinking that there must be a bunch of cool old cars hiding in people’s garages. We also have this five acre property on Adams Road, putting those two things together we figured launching a classic car show would allow for all those cool cars to converge in one place.”

So far, Raef and Darla have 17 classic vehicles lined-up for viewing at the show, which will take place on July 22nd.

“All but two of those cars are from Bowen,” says Raef. “And I know there are a number of other Bowen vehicles likely to be a part of the show, the registration for them is just not complete yet.”

Registration for the show ends on June 30, and go to BowenIslandMotorShow.com to enter your vehicle.
