Police say there is no ongoing risk to the public following the stabbing death of a 26-year-old man in Whistler early this morning (Aug. 14).

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is currently on scene and is calling on the public to help further its investigation.

At around 2:09 a.m. Saturday, the Sea-to-Sky RCMP responded to the Whistler Medical Clinic after a male attended the clinic, suffering from a stabbing, according to an IHIT news release.

When police arrived they learned the victim had died as a result of his injuries and, following witness assistance, a crime scene was identified in the 4100 block of Village Green, which was then secured.

Images on social media show the area taped off along Village Green, in front of what appears to be the Listel Hotel.

IHIT now has conduct of the investigation and is working with local police, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence.

The victim was not known to police and the incident is not believed to be associated with the current Lower Mainland gang conflict, according to the news release.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident, in what is normally a peaceful resort community. There is no known risk to the public. Investigators believe there may have been witnesses in the area who have information, including cellphone videos and pictures, as well as dash-cam footage,” stated IHIT Cpl. Timothy Pierotti.  “Anyone who was in the area of Whistler Green between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. is asked to contact IHIT immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
