West Shore RCMP say a suspected impaired driver was lucky to sustain only minor injuries when his vehicle rolled over Saturday night in Langford.

An officer patrolling on Millstream Avenue was flagged down by a witness about 9:50 p.m. who said a vehicle had flipped near Bear Mountain Parkway and Echo Valley Drive.

The officer arrived to find a 2018 Toyota Corolla on its roof and the 22-year-old driver already outside the vehicle.

There were no other occupants.

Police said the driver failed a blood-alcohol test on a roadside-screening device and was given an immediate 90-day driving prohibition.

The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

“With the holiday season upon us, we would like to remind motorists to please plan for a safe ride home,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

West Shore RCMP will have roadblocks around the community in the coming weeks to check for driver sobriety, police said.
