A neighbour came to the rescue of a man who fell through the ice on Kalamalka Lake over the weekend.

Coralee Nairn with Vernon Search and Rescue says the man fell through the ice on Sunday, after venturing out to warn some children to stay away from the edge.

Search and Rescue crews were contacted by the Coldstream Fire Department, as they are trained in ice rescues.

However, both groups stood down when it became clear that a neighbour with a ladder had come to the man's rescue.

Trevor Siebel with the District of Coldstream says the incident happened in front of a private residence down the lake from Kal Lake Beach.

"The guy got himself out with help from a neighbour," says Nairn.
