The jabs will be back on Bowen June 5.
Vancouver Coastal Health has listed another COVID-19 vaccination clinic next Saturday at Bowen Island Community School between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The clinic comes the week following Bowen's first vaccination clinic in more than a month and the first open to the general public under 70 (May 29).
The June 5 clinic also comes as provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced Thursday that the gap between doses is closing from 16 weeks to eight weeks, making those who were vaccinated in March eligible for their second jabs. (There are complexities here, especially for those who received AstraZeneca plc vaccine – there's been a spotty supply and there's the possibility there'll be mix and match options with the mRNA vaccines but Henry said there'll be enough supply for those who want AstraZeneca second doses. Henry also said Thursday that second dose priority will go to British Columbians at greatest risk – seniors, elders, Indigenous people and people identified as extremely vulnerable.
To get an invitation to book a second dose appointment, one must be registered. (Anyone who received a vaccination at a Bowen clinic should at the very least check to make sure they're registered as they took place before the online registration system came into effect. They should also register if they received an AstraZeneca vaccine at the pharmacy.)
A note on the May 29 Bowen clinic: Dr. Susanne Schloegl sent in a note reminding islanders that it's by appointment only with the exception of teens, who can come with a parent who has a booked appointment.
As of May 24, 70 per cent of Bowen Island adults had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
