Tla’amin Nation is reporting more than 20 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of September 12.
According to a media release from Tla’amin, contact tracing and a comprehensive testing strategy have enabled the nation to quickly identify and provide support to impacted residents.
On September 11, Tla’amin extended its shelter-in-place order for its residents until September 14 at 5 pm. The order was extended pending test results from 50 residents who took part in the in-community drive-through testing on September 10.
“I want to thank the community for participating in our community testing program,” stated Tla’amin hegus Clint Williams. “Knowledge is the first step to contain this virus. Now we are in a better position to support impacted individuals and families to self-isolate and focus on getting better. We are a strong people who have been through a lot, and we will get through this.”
Those who have tested positive are recovering at home under the supervision of health-care providers or receiving care in hospital.
According to the release, Tla’amin residents have also been advised to keep their children home from school for the duration of the shelter-in-place order, and School District 47 supports the nation’s decision. Tla’amin thanked educators for establishing connections with Tla’amin students and support staff, and supporting a smooth return to school when the time comes.
