Man arrested after stolen vehicle crashed in Vancouver

The Independent Investigations Office of BC has been called in after the driver was taken to the hospital.

Police officers in Vancouver arrested a man after a stolen vehicle crashed in the Champlain Heights neighbourhood.

The incident unfolded at 4:30 p.m. on June 15. 

A grey Toyota Echo was reported stolen to the Vancouver Police Department from the 0 block of East Broadway in Mount Pleasant on Sunday. 

Police found the car just before 4:30 p.m.; shortly after, it was involved in a single-vehicle collision in the 8100-block of Matheson Crescent near Southwest Marine Drive and Boundary Road. 

A man who was driving was arrested and later taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment.

B.C.’s independent watchdog was called in to investigate after the incident. 

The Independent Investigations Office of BC is called in when there has been an injury that meets the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, or a death; and if there is a connection between the serious harm/death and police action or inaction.
