A mix of sun and cloud is expected to start Metro Vancouver off this week, according to the latest forecast.
A slight chance of light showers remains in Vancouver for the rest of Sunday, May 11, Environment Canada meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron tells Vancouver is Awesome, but those should clear up as the day ends.
Forecast for Monday to Wednesday very similar
Monday morning may start off a bit dull, especially near the Georgia Strait, but things will improve, according to Bergeron.
"There's a slight chance of drizzle in the morning," he says. "You'll have a lot of marine cloud forming in the late overnight hours and tomorrow morning."
There could also be a stiff breeze along the ocean shore, with speeds up to 30 km/h.
However, it will be "nothing exceptional," says Bergeron.
"Then it's quiet the rest of the day," he adds, noting it'll likely be cloudier in the morning than in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to peak at 16 C.
Tuesday, May 13, will be very similar, but without the morning drizzle and wind.
"It might be something similar on Tuesday, where you have a bit more cloud in the morning," Bergeron explains.
Wednesday will again be similar, though it may have more clouds.
"It will likely be overcast in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon," says Bergeron.
Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be close to Monday and the normal for this time of year. Highs should be around 16 or 17 C, with warmer temperatures inland, away from the ocean. Lows are expected to be between 9 C and 11 C.
Weak system arriving late in week
A low-pressure system is expected to slide over Vancouver late this week, says Bergeron.
The weak system could arrive anytime between Thursday and Friday and drop about 10 mm of rain over a 12-to-24-hour period.
"Right now we're calling it a 40 per cent chance of showers, but maybe during the day on Thursday there could be 5-15 mm of rain," says Bergeron. "Then it might be a little bit cooler."
Highs of 15 C or 16 C are currently forecast.
"It's just a little bit uncertain," says Bergeron of the current late-week forecast.
By the time the long weekend arrives, there may be some lingering moisture on Saturday, May 17, but things currently look to dry out, says Bergeron, but there's a low level of confidence in that forecast at this time.
"It looks like the wetter days will be Thursday or Friday," he says. "But keep an eye on the forecast."
