A Metro Vancouver man won $1M in the lottery. His father also won the lottery in the Philippines.

“I saw my dad win a lottery prize in the Philippines and after that, I started purchasing tickets here and there,” says Metro Vancouver resident Gerard Ordoyo.

Ordoyo saw his father's dreams come true and now it appears luck runs in the family.

The Surrey man was at Guildford Town Centre when he checked his ticket at a lottery kiosk and discovered he had won the $1 million prize.

“I thought it was $1,000 so I signed it and gave it to the person working and then they scanned it and told me how much I won,” he recalls.

Ordoyo immediately called his wife on the SkyTrain to tell her the news.

"She thought it was a prank,” he says.

To celebrate the big win Ordoyo is planning on returning to the Philippines for a family reunion. He also says he looks forward to being able to help his children who begin university next year.

Ordoyo bought the winning ticket at the Guildford Town Centre London Drugs for the Dec. 28, 2022, draw.
