Vancouver man back in jail on theft charges days after release

Rodney Francis Bruyere is alleged to have robbed a man eight days after he was released from jail for threatening a bus driver.
Vancouver Provincial Court
The court has heard the man has a record of numerous violent offences.

A man sentenced to time-served in November for threatening a bus driver is back in jail after being charged with offences allegedly starting eight days after his release.

Rodney Francis Bruyere, 53, made threats to punch and shoot a Coast Mountain bus driver in Vancouver on July 12.

Judge Kathryn Denhoff Nov. 28 heard Bruyere has a record of numerous violent offences.

Denhoff noted Bruyere had been in custody 42 days, which was credited at 63 days.

She said Bruyere has indicated a willingness to get treatment for problems he faces; however, as a condition of his release, Bruyere is banned from using Coast Mountain or TransLink.

Bruyere was back in Vancouver Provincial Court Jan. 5 before Judge Reginald Harris. He appeared via video from jail.

He now faces four new charges.

It is alleged he robbed a man in Vancouver on Dec. 6.

It is further alleged that, on Dec. 20, he committed theft in excess of $5,000 and had in his possession a car stereo worth more than $5,000, knowing the equipment was obtained via an indictable offence.

The victim in the last two offences is the same person.

Denhoff banned Bruyere from possessing weapons as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.
