Celebrate Six Years with Catching Stars Gallery!

The gallery celebrates 6 successful years on June 15
Catching Stars artists celebrate another amazing year. (L-R) Kathleen Ainscough, Alys Williams, Emilie Kaplun, Chelsea Mainwaring, Deb Stringfellow & Katie Mainwaring.

Get ready to celebrate with Catching Stars Gallery, a well-established cooperative gallery located in the heart of Snug Cove, as we get ready to mark our sixth anniversary! Come join the festivities!

The Gallery has welcomed in many amazing artists during the last six years. To date, there are 50 artists represented at Catching Stars Gallery, with more than half of those being from Bowen Island.

We have recently welcomed ceramic artist Steph Takagi from the interior of BC, who creates hand carved pottery in striking patterns and colours, in the form of mugs, tea cups, bowls and more. A perfect series to gift and add to your collection.

Maria Ida Designs is also new to the gallery and is a Vancouver-based blown glass production company. Founder Maria Struk makes colourful objects for the home with a joyful, unpretentious feel. Every piece is hand-blown, melding creativity, danger, science and molten glass into one-of-a-kind pieces.

Our Feature Artist for the month of June is Deb Stringfellow, a published photographer living and working on Bowen Island. She has created her signature line of jewellery with semi-precious stones and beads, carefully handpicking each gem from places across the globe. Each is hand-crafted and tells its own story. Her collection is featured for the month of June. She also has a whimsical line of pet amulets called Pawsitively Precious made for your precious pets. Enter the draw for a chance to win one of these delightful pieces for your special furry friend.

Also for the month of June, we celebrate Artists who are also Fathers! Featured are works by Gilt Studio’s David Graff, leather creations by Joel Weise, beautiful and functional turned wood bowls, candle holders and serving boards by John Topham, paintings by Nick Jennings, gorgeous glass by Robert Parkes and extraordinary wood carvings by Shane Tweten.

We are thrilled to welcome Shelley Koke and Dayna Kreutzer (Purdy) into the Catching Stars fold as our newest Associates. Shelley Koke is a painter who loves nature photography and creating art in various mediums. Still teaching in the elementary classroom, she is never more passionate and excited than when leading and inspiring young artists to create their own works. Shelley has discovered a joy and passion for painting and playing with colours and pigments.

Dayna Kreutzer is a self-taught artist living on Bowen Island with her family. Dayna creates unique earrings and pendants; from delicate filigree and mandala patterns, to bold geometric shapes. Seasonal and home decor pieces feature precision inlaid wood designs.

We have a few options for being a part of our Cooperative Gallery. For example, our Associates receive a larger percentage of their art sales in exchange for shifts in the gallery and having a dedicated space to display their work. This model allows the gallery to be open daily and gives locals and tourists alike the opportunity to meet the artists, purchase unique artworks and support the creative community.

Coming up in July, our Featured Artists will be Dave Brewin with his hand turned wood and resin vessels, along with Fibre Arts by Natasha Boskic. August featured artists are Jennifer Love with her many layered gelli plate and mono-printed, collaged paintings, cards and journals and Janna Kumi with her intricate drawings and collage inspired by the bark of trees.

Featured Artists have the opportunity to showcase their work for one month at the Gallery with extra marketing and promotions of their work. Feature artists receive a larger percentage of their art sales (90 per cent). It is a great opportunity to showcase and sell more of your art, have an event related to the show and introduce new collections to our clientele.

We are now booking featured artists for the fall. Interested in finding out more? Please get in touch with us - co-owners Emilie and Kathleen. Our website has more information in the Submissions section.
