Last year, three committed grade 8 IPS students dreamed up an idea of how they could raise money to send their penpals, who live at the Royal Seed Orphanage in Ghana, to secondary high school. They decided to complete a relay triathlon with Luke MacKenzie riding from Deep Cove to Whytecliff Park, Willem Young swimming from Whytecliff to Bowen Island and Angus Duguid running up and down Mt. Gardner on Bowen Island. The boys orchestrated a hugely successful fundraising campaign raising $22,000 and securing a $18,000 matching donation from Sanctuary for Kids. On May 24th, 2014 they completed their triathlon, cheered along the way by crowds of their classmates, friends and families. They announced that the  $40,000 that they raised could send ten students to high school for the full four years. An incredible and transformative opportunity was created by Canadian students for their friends in Ghana.

This week 10 students registered for secondary school classes in Ghana. For Rendolf, Eunice, Joyce, Faith, Millicent, Emmanuel, Richard, Andrew, Ebeneezer and Deborah, this is the beginning of a huge positive change in their lives. Thank you Angus, Luke and Willem and all of their generous donors and supporters for making this happen!
