Snug Cove House volunteers were eager to get BowFest community feedback about our recent plans regarding selling 12 lots on Miller Road, and the progress on planning our seniors’ supportive living residence. Over the coming weeks we will share some of these questions and answers here in The Undercurrent. Feel free to check out our website (snugcovehouse.com) for more information

Question: What is the minimum age of entry to move into the residence?

Answer: We have always aimed this residence at Bowen seniors who can no longer or choose no longer to live on their own. Recent research suggests that the average age of entry might be approximately 84 years of age. However, we would likely use the provincial standard of 65 years of age as the minimum to be considered. (We might also need to loosen this requirement at the beginning, in order to ensure that we have a very low or no vacancy rate, and can therefore meet our financial obligations.)

Question: Does Snug Cove House Society actually own the land that would be subdivided for separate sale for single and duplex homes?

Answer: Yes, Snug Cove House Society used to be the Abbeyfield of Bowen Island Society, and as such we were able to buy the parcel of land from Metro Vancouver Parks in 2004. Contributions from virtually every household on the island allowed us to buy the land. We are now using a portion of this land as leverage, selling small house lots, to generate funds for the seniors’ residence construction.
