Bronwyn Churcher and Christian McInnis have made their departure from Bowen, but are waiting patiently for their real adventure to begin on August 24.
“We have about a year planned out,” says Churcher. “Two months in Japan, three months in New Zealand, between one and two months in Australia, Indonesia and India, and four or five months in Europe.”
The couple will travel by bike where it is possible, and do as much WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) when the opportunity arises.
Churcher moved to Bowen Island at the age of eleven, and after traveling and becoming a teacher landed back here with McInnis.
“He fell in love with this place instantly,” she says, adding that this upcoming journey may determine where the couple settle in the long-term.
“I always seemed to land back here because my parents had a house,” says Churcher. “Now that they’ve sold it, coming back seems less straightforward. I guess if we do come back here, it will be because we really want to – and not just because it’s easy.”
