Bowen Island Tuesday Art Workshop members are very busy preparing for their upcoming show and sale and they are having a lot of fun in the process. With that last touch of paint, the perfect mat and frame and surrendering the final signature, we are ready to let the show begin.
The Courage to Create is the name of our annual exhibition and speaks directly to the spirit of the group. We all love to create in one form or another, and in most cases it does take courage to confront a sense of vulnerability, but there is no question that the journey is well worth it. The art exhibition and sale is at Bowen Court on May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 6 from 1 to 4 p.m., May 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Mother's Day, May 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. Along with the amazing art pieces, there will be refreshments, two door prizes, and demos by some members of our group. The Tuesday Art Workshop (TAW) is truly a Bowen institution that has been going strong since 1967, when Bowen pioneer and activist Katie Carter first pursued her idea to present an art education opportunity to the community. Katie approached the Sunshine Coast school division for sponsorship and the adult education art program was born. The enthusiastic group continued to meet weekly long after formal instruction was offered. The group met at Collins Hall for many years and now meets at Bowen Court, still every Tuesday morning.
The eclectic group of artists are friendly and very supportive. Our styles differ, but our love of putting paint on paper or canvas is our common bond. We all benefit from shared information, ideas and critiques, and many members have become very successful artists, exhibiting on Bowen and the mainland. Presently, there are more than 25 members, and we are encouraging anyone who feels an inner artist poking at them to come out and shine, please come and join TAW or drop in to try us on for size.
