Wake up containers in the winter

Many gardeners throw away fading potted plants in the fall - or worse still they leave them sadly withering and wilting by the front door! But not Nancy Ashton. She believes in waking up containers in the wintertime.

Many gardeners throw away fading potted plants in the fall - or worse still they leave them sadly withering and wilting by the front door! But not Nancy Ashton. She believes in waking up containers in the wintertime. She feels winter colour can scare away the winter 'blues'. Over the years she has developed the knack of creating welcoming winter masterpieces for all kinds of garden containers.

Nancy's passion for gardening began when she was a small child following along behind her knowledgeable grandmother and asking lots of questions. Her great appreciation and eye for natural beauty grew when she worked on the BC Coast for many summers on her family's commercial fishing boat. This appreciation is very evident in the natural type of containers she creates.

Nancy has worked part time at West Van Florist for well over 20 years and her unique, large and spectacular planters are often on display outside the store.

At the Bowen Island Garden Club's October meeting Nancy will lead us through the art of creating and caring for container creations that will undoubtedly brighten our winter months and make us less anxious for the Spring. Nancy speaks with a great sense of fun, enthusiasm and knowledge. This is certain to be an informative and entertaining event.

Join us on Monday, October 15, at 1 p.m. at the Gallery in Artisan Square.
