Mark the date: Drop-in Walking Meditation sessions begin again on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and every Sunday evening thereafter. These sessions are offered at no cost to anyone on Bowen Island who would like to learn or deepen their ability to use walking as a form of meditation and mindfulness. Whether it is for stress reduction, anxiety management, or learning to tap into a sense of increased presence, joy, and connection to the deeper you, walking meditation is a very old and beautiful practice.

We will draw on the works of Krishnamurti, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Ram Dass, among others. I will be leading these sessions also drawing from my 27 years as a psychotherapist, poet, and time spent on an ashram in India. We will meet on the Bowest field under one of the gazebos at the park entrance farthest from the beach. This is not an exercise class so don’t worry about how far we will be walking. We will be walking slowly. Each session will begin under one of the gazebos with some herbal tea (which I will bring) and a small teaching on walking meditation, as well as some practical tips. Then we will move into silence and practise and walk together in the delightful autumn dusk. Dress warm. Walking meditation sessions will be happening regardless of the weather. Everyone is welcome.
