Zucchinis, Slugs and Lego, oh My! Bowfest calling all competitors

The Bowfest Country Fair Tent has plenty of fun and competition in store

What do the biggest zucchinis, racing slugs and Lego animal creations have in common? You will find them all at the Bowfest Country Tent from 2 to 4:30 pm on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The Country Fair Tent is one of the many traditions at the annual community festival. Some years there are more contests, but throughout the years, these three contests have formed a core of fun for all ages.

Bring your biggest zucchinis to be weighed and admired, bring Lego creations (or photos) of your original animal themed Lego designs, and bring your own slugs to race down the raceway eight at a time!

Bring a well-treated slug from your home garden in a container. You may also bring a bribe to place at the end of the track. No water spray bottles and no snails allowed!

The Bowfest slug races have been an annual tradition that has been ‹running› since the very first Bowfest, and is part of the reason Bo the banana slug is Bowfest’s mascot.

Slug jockeys are reminded that as well as naming and caring for your slugs, you are responsible to return them back to your garden.

Lego design contest: you can design anything you want, just make sure you have a write up letting us know about your inspiration. If it is too big, you can bring a photo in, and stories and photos of your favourite animal (farm or pet or wild).

There may be some other fun things to be found at the Country Fair tent, so make sure you drop by. And thank you to everyone for helping to keep the quirky local traditions alive and well!
