Most of us don’t spend our time pondering the infrastructure around us. We might take a photo, and curse the way power lines traverse a perfect landscape or clutter our alley ways. Yet power poles and their wires bring us light, telephone, electronic information and mechanization. Where, for instance, would we be without electricity?
Power poles are a metaphor for connectivity, power and communication.
Artist Kristin Krimmel says, “In each painting, I discovered things I did not know. For instance the wires that I thought were all black are in fact varied in colours of white, red, turquoise blue and black. There are ceramic insulators that are a deep burgundy colour and others that are white. Some are glass, in transparent aquamarine. There are more ways to connect and more ways for a line to travel than I had ever suspected.
I discovered that a single wire bending and twisting in the light can change colour just because of light source and the shadows which occur.”
This series is about observation and finding beauty in the common objects around us. Every painting is a discovery.
Krimmel is sensitively aware of life around her. She explores it, analyzes it and transforms it into imagery with a uniquely personal viewpoint. In this unique exhibition, she has chosen to portray infrastructure, which should open your eyes to a different beauty. A lifetime of commitment shows in Krimmel’s work. The depth of imagery and technical mastery of several media combine in this exhibition. It’s not to be missed.
