Delta Youth Theatre (DYT) is proud to bring Finding Nemo Jr. to the Equinox Theatre stage at South Delta Secondary School from May 3 to 12.

This charming musical adaptation is a show for all ages. It is based on the beloved 2003 Pixar film Finding Nemo and features new music by the award-winning song writing team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who composed the music for Disney’s “Frozen” franchise.

Directed by Tony Barton and Tracy Neff and choreographed by Zoe Harmandian, the show will feature performances by young singers, dancers, and actors from North and South Delta, and communities across the Lower Mainland.

Together, they will bring to life the story of a parent learning to let go: Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the wider world. But when Nemo is captured and taken to a fish tank in Sydney, Australia, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean.

With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin, and Nemo both overcome challenges to find each other and themselves. Featuring memorable songs such as Just Keep Swimming, Fish Are Friends Not Food, and Go with the Flow, Finding Nemo Jr. tells a heart-warming story of family, friendship, and adventure.

“We are excited to be one of the first companies in the area to present this show, and in doing so, present a new challenge to some of our more experienced performers,” says Neff.

Barton elaborates when he offers, “For this show, we have been working with a Tsawwassen-native, Frances Henry, on creating large, hand-held puppets that actors must incorporate into their performance. It’s a challenge for us as directors as well.”

DYT is known for elaborate sets and beautiful costumes, and this show pushes the creative envelope for the company’s long-serving costume coordinator, Lora Keady.

“This is Lora’s final show with us so naturally, we are making it one of the most ambitious!” laughs Barton. “With a talented team of volunteers, Lora is tasked with creating, from scratch, an entire underwater world with sharks, puffer fish, sea anemones and more. It’s going to be an under the sea party you won’t want to miss!”
