Halloween is just around the corner and the transformation has already begunas Deep Bay seemingly overnight mutates into haunted houses with spider webinfested doorways and spooky graveyards. A place where ghoulies and ghosties hang from trees haunting the hundreds of trick- or -treaters that pass throughthis neighborhood on Halloween night. This has become an annual tradition in Deep Bay, partly due to the proximity it has to the lagoon, which is where the fireworks display occurs but also because it is an area that is contained and people feel safe allowing their wee goblins to run wild in search of candy.
In past years local residents have counted between 300 to 400 children alldecked out in their finest halloween attire, making the annual pilgrimage from house to house in search of sweets. Providing this amount of candy can be difficultfor some residents to maintain and nobody wants to run out on the day. So once again bags of halloween candy donations are being collected at the grocery store, a box across from the cash has been designated to collect any contributions.
Joe Lewicki has graciously volunteered his time to pickup and distribute the bags of loot to residents around the neighborhood. Oct 30th will be the last day to donate. The residents in Deep Bay appreciate the help and thank everyone who participates. Baked goods cannot be handed out due to quality control but small toys or stickers in lieu of candy is acceptable.
The fun begins at dusk and continues till the call of the fireworks draws the crowd down towards the lagoon at 7:30pm. Driving cars through the Melmore/Lenora loop is not advised, the young rule the streets and the mayhem lasts till after the fireworks. Some parking is available at the Catholic Church and at the entrance to the park on Miller road or down in the cove. Darkness falls fast so remember to bring a flashlight and use reflective gear to help keep track of your little ghastly ghouls while they run from house to house filling their bags.
Ultimately, this is an evening for everyone so please keep any store bought fireworks away from the treating action and let the professionals put on a safe and fantastic show down by the causeway.
