The Delta Police Department’s “Bend Don’t Break” podcast – which provides a platform for first responders to share their stories – was identified earlier this month by an international safety and security company as one of the top must-listen-to policing and law enforcement podcasts.

Hosted by Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord, the podcast highlighted by Real Time Networks, was first initiated in 2018 and has since released more than 30 episodes.

It also has more than 60,000 downloads from podcast platforms and has maintained a 4.9-star rating on the Apple podcast app, reads Dubord’s report to the Delta Police Board, presented at the Feb. 16th meeting.

“The podcast provides a platform through the power of story for those who protect our communities 24/7 to share dialogue about the realities of mental health, wellbeing, addictions and family/relationship breakdown. The stories include some of the stark realities of post-traumatic stress for first responders,” Dubord wrote in the report.

Firefighters, paramedics, police officers and even their significant others have shared their stories of triumph, courage and renewed outlook on life to reduce stigma and highlight how individuals are persevering in the aftermath of tragedy or adversity.

The podcast aims to provide first-hand insights that will help management and leadership better understand the perspectives of their front-line workers, as well as be better prepared to support and take care of them.

“As a police chief, I am both honored and grateful to have the opportunity to sit down with some of my officers, other police departments’ officers and other first responders, alike, to be able to hear their stories,” said Dubord.
