It might be said that an exceptionally astute sense of smell can be a gift or a curse. For Dr. Joan Parker, the heroine of the Nosey Parker mystery series, it may be the only thing keeping her out of jail!

A Nose for Death (Thistledown Press, 2013) is the first novel in a new mystery series by Glynis Whiting, featuring a protagonist-sleuth whose olfactory sense rivals that of any other person on the planet.

Recently featured on the cover of BC BookWorld, Whiting has been writing professionally for over 30 years, but has only recently turned her pen to prose. She has received the Vancouver Mayor's Award for Emerging Literary Artist for A Nose for Death and is now working on the second of the Nosey Parker Murder Mysteries.

Bowen Library, the Friends of the Library and the Bowen Arts Council are thrilled to welcome Glynis Whiting to Bowen Island as part of the Arts Council's 2013-2014 Author Reading Series. Whiting will be at the Gallery@Artisan Square on Saturday November 2 reading from A Nose for Death, answering questions about the new series, and offering tips for improving your own sense of smell!

Next in the Author Reading Series are Leilah Nadir and Kathryn Para on November 16th at 7 pm, also in the Gallery@Artisan Square.
