'It's not dramatic': Sunny, warm week forecast for Metro Vancouver

Some areas will likely crack 30 C

Metro Vancouver's forecast shows temperatures consistently 3 or 4 degrees above normal.

Metro Vancouver's forecast is sunny, pleasant, and a little bit boring this week.

A slight cooldown Monday, July 14, won't last, and temperatures will peak at 31 or 32 C inland this week, according to Environment Canada meteorologist David Wray.

"It'll be sunny, maybe a bit of cloud and very pleasant," Wray tells V.I.A.

Currently Metro Vancouver is under a ridge of high pressure, he explains. Sunday, July 13, will likely hit a high of 26 C near the ocean's shore and 31 C in Metro Vancouver's eastern communities.

Monday cooldown

"We're looking at a bit of a cooldown tomorrow," Wray says.

A trough of low pressure will move through the region, bringing some cloud cover to the region, but significant clouds or precipitation are not predicted.

Highs of 23 C near the water and 27 C inland are expected.

"Conditions will cool enough that people can find relief," Wray says.

Hot midweek

Parts of Metro Vancouver are expected to crack 30 C in the middle of the week after the trough leaves and the ridge rebuilds.

Areas closer to the ocean are expected to be around 26 C on Tuesday, July 15, explains Wray, while areas further inland, like Coquitlam, Langley, and parts of Surrey, may reach as high as 32 C.

"We're just short of heat warning territory," Wray says, noting that it may have been considered if the high temperatures were to stick around longer.

Cooling but still warm

"From Tuesday to Wednesday, we'll probably drop a couple of degrees," says Wray. "Friday might be a little cooler."

Near the shore temperatures might only be slightly cooler, with a potential high of 25 C on Wednesday, July 16, but inland it's expected to remain below 30 C.

For some it may be quite hot, while others will likely enjoy the sunny, warm summer weather, Wray notes.

"It should be really pleasant summer weather," says Wray.

The stretch of sunny, dry weather will continue for the foreseeable future, he notes.

"It's not dramatic," Wray says of this week. "It's nothing super interesting."
