A Toxic Drug Poisonings Alert was issued for Williams Lake by Interior Health on March 25, and will remain in place until April 1.
"There have been multiple drug poisonings (overdoses) including fatalities in Williams Lake related to down or fentanyl use," notes a release.
The release notes users should take steps to prevent overdoses, including the following:
- Get your drug checked - find locations at drugchecking.ca
- Be aware of increased risk if mixing with other drugs, including alcohol
- Use with others around or at an Overdose Prevention Site (OPS)
- Start with a small amount and space out your doses
- Carry naloxone and know how to use it
