'Winter strikes back': Cold Arctic air to bring Metro Vancouver into deep freeze

The Weather Network says "low-elevation snowfall" is possible in Vancouver and the cold could last up to two weeks.

Environment Canada and The Weather Network call for freezing temperatures in the 2023 Metro Vancouver weather forecast as Arctic air moves across Canada.

Following an extended stretch of milder, wet weather, a blast of cold Arctic air will soon bring temperatures several degrees below seasonal averages in Metro Vancouver.

The Weather Network proclaims how "winter strikes back" in its latest Canada-wide forecast, which includes a weather model that shows how the frigid blast of Arctic air will make its way across the country the last week of the month.

Meteorologist Tyler Hamilton explains how the "Arctic taps will drain right into western Canada" with some "temperature anomalies" to finish off February that could see temperatures falling south of 10 C below seasonal averages.

Daily highs will struggle to rise above -20 C in parts of Western Canada, with upslope snow forecast across Alberta.

Low-elevation snowfall is expected to reach B.C.'s south coast as temperatures plummet across the Lower Mainland.

Eastern Canada will also see significant cold, with the Atlantic provinces seeing some "sustained winter weather" and "high confidence for above-average precipitation."

How long will the frigid temperatures last in the Metro Vancouver weather forecast?

The frosty spell is expected to commence Tuesday (Feb. 21) and continue through until at least the end of the week, Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon told V.I.A. in a previous interview.

But The Weather Network's most recent modelling suggests that the frigid temperatures might stick around for the next couple of weeks, lasting through the end of the month.
