Run for Rwanda results

Despite many misgivings about the weather, August 24 proved to be an excellent day for both our community run and for Bowfest. We had a record number of enthusiastic young runners, from two-year-old Amadea Sarra up.

Despite many misgivings about the weather, August 24 proved to be an excellent day for both our community run and for Bowfest. We had a record number of enthusiastic young runners, from two-year-old Amadea Sarra up. Young teenagers featured prominently in the adult runs as well. Congratulations to you all. Here are the top runners in the adult runs:

Top three in the 10K men's run were Colin Kerr, Tom Woodward and Gerd Braeuer. In the 10K women's category, Catherine Moncrieff came in first, followed by Lynn Forbes and Susannah Montague.

Romeo Manoose (age 12) was first, Joern Staege (age 11) second and Ian Weekes third in the 5K men's run. For the 5K women's run, Lisa Brougham came first, followed by Thelma Wright and Callie and Katie Brougham. For a comprehensive set of results, see rotaryrunforrwanda.com.

Many thanks to our volunteers and to our sponsors, including the Ruddy Potato (delicious snacks and fruit), Artisan Eats and Savary Island Pie Co. (muffins), McTaggart Water, North Shore Athletics (Komera Canada numbers and prizes), Union Steamship Co. (kids' prizes), Peller Estates (main draw prize of four Sandhill wines) and financial sponsorships from Frits de Vries Architecture, Chilliwack Ford, Barbara Wahler Interior Design and AIM Language Learning. Sponsorships in kind came from the First Credit Union, the Undercurrent, The Office, Phoenix and Positively Fit. Our grateful thanks also go to many generous private donors. We at Komera Canada will reach our primary goal of scholarships for ten girls at high school in Rwanda, and hope to extend our activities next year.
