New meowvies are coming to Bowen.

In an effort to boost community morale, Bowen Island Municipality is launching a cat memes YouTube channel.

Mayor Gary Ander will host the weekly five-minute tributes to internet genius.

Each Friday, Ander and a guest host will discuss their all-time favourite cat memes and take audience questions. Memes are to include Lenin cat, Longcat, Pop-tart cat, Ceiling Cat and HTTP status cat.

“I can’t wait for cat with bread around its face week,” says project director Mitch Emhoff. “It’s a favourite around the office.”

Guest hosts will be islanders selected by random draw from the phone book. They’ll be notified the evening before filming. Each islander is to keep a list of their favourite memes ready to go in case they’re called up to guest host.

“We expect each islander to do their duty in the name of laughter,” said Emhoff. “It’s never been more important.”

BIM will also give out paintings of cats dressed as mayor and council to the islanders who submit the best Bowen-themed cat memes.

“I personally asked for a 10-foot version of the painting instead of payment for this job,” said Emhoff. “Portraits such as these keep us connected to our leaders in a time of crisis.”

Of course none of this is true, Happy April Fools! Stay safe everyone.
