After nearly two months of operation, Bowen’s only emergency weather shelter is closing for the rest of the season.

The Lookout Society told its island partners Wednesday that it would be closing the service, which offered beds and a meal at Collins Hall for cold and wet nights, effective immediately, as no community members had so far used the shelter.

The shelter opened in early January. The previous winters, there had been a need for shelter and no such service was available, prompting a islanders to look for solutions.

For islanders who may need the society's services, the Lookout Society operates shelters on the North Shore.
