The season of giving has extended to January for the community centre project.

In a press release Wednesday, Bowen Island Municipality announced that two separate donors were pledging around $1 million each to the project.

One anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to the capital costs while a second has dedicated an approximately million-dollar legacy gift says the release.

Other contributions total more than $80,000 for the community centre.

“Total project construction costs are estimated to be $14.5 M. The municipality has $1.2 M in reserves earmarked for a community centre and expects to raise $2 M for the municipal hall component through a tax neutral loan,” reads the release.

“It is hoped that the senior levels of government will chip in $7.3 M through grants such as the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which leaves $4 M for the community to contribute,” it says.

The infrastructure grant application deadline is January 23. To demonstrate community support, project organizers are looking for donations and letters of support.

Pledges can be made at ourislandplace.com/pledge before January 20, 2019.
