While the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many cancellations, it hasn’t cancelled municipal fees and taxes.

Bowen Island Municipality launched online fee paying last week to allow islanders to pay for property taxes, utility licences and business licences by credit card.

“As part of our efforts to support residents and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the convenience fee, charged by credit card companies for using this online service, will be paid by Bowen Island Municipality on your behalf,” says the BIM website.

To pay online, islanders need to visit bowenislandmunicipality.ca/my-account and follow the instructions from there to create a MyAccount profile.

Other options to pay include through the mail, in-person (dropping off a cheque in the drop-box) and through your bank.

Property tax notices are usually sent out in May or June.

Other BIM services to go online include those of the planning and development division.

“Paper inquiries and applications will continue to be accepted via the drop box located on the porch door of Municipal Hall,” reads the BIM website. “But, please note that processing times for paper submissions will be extended as most staff are working remotely.”
