Chance comment sparks golf course memory

Last Saturday when in one of Bowen’s many community halls, the General Store, I was delighted to have Michael “FIX-IT” Segal express his appreciation for another very popular community amenity, our public golf course.

Last Saturday when in one of Bowen’s many community halls, the General Store, I was delighted to have Michael “FIX-IT” Segal express his appreciation for another very popular community amenity, our public golf course.

It was not so much the fact Michael was considerate enough to take the time to express his appreciation for the joint efforts of those volunteers plus almost 550 donors who turned this 77-year dream into a reality, it was the fact he “announced” it amongst the throng of store customers.  What was particularly satisfying to me was the fact he said he was enjoying the course while playing it with their young children, who can’t play it enough of it.  Mission accomplished!

While in name we are the Bowen Island Golf Club, don’t let the name “Club” fool you, as this community amenity is PUBLIC in every way, 7-24-365, both by virtue of our mission statement as well as the Cowan Point bylaws that paved the way for that Bowen Island Properties development.

We thank Michael for taking the time to recognize and express his appreciation for the substantial efforts of so many that has got us to where we are today, which will take us forward FOREver.  He has somewhat come full circle in that, when the “Hilton” was our first clubhouse, his lovely wife Andrea operated the “Snack Shack” on the deck at the Hilton.  We can only hope your game is as good as Andrea’s BIGA burgers.
