LETTER: Passing the torch: the Gym on Bowen

Dear Editor, What a strange Friday last week. After nine and a half years of Friday morning volunteering at Fawn Gill’s Gym on Bowen, I didn’t have a shift to go to.

Dear Editor,

What a strange Friday last week.

After nine and a half years of Friday morning volunteering at Fawn Gill’s Gym on Bowen, I didn’t have a shift to go to. I was Fawn’s first personal training client and immediately offered to help her when she opened the gym in 2007.

As a few people know, Anna-Marie and I are trying to travel as often as we can and with an older sister-in-law in Calgary and a 90-year-old uncle in Portland I had decided that it wasn’t fair to the rest of the volunteers to always be looking for someone to cover my shifts.

My decision to leave at the end of August just happened to coincide with Fawn passing the gym over to Alix and Brad.

I was so proud to have worked with Fawn for almost a decade. She’s such a dedicated fitness professional who cares totally about her clients. She worked so diligently to offer Bowen the best quality gym possible. From insisting on every piece of equipment being wiped down during every volunteer shift, to us getting to know her members to make sure they enjoyed their workout, she was always positive, joyful and professional.

I know the gym is in great hands and now Fawn is able to truly concentrate on her first love of personal training and her pilates and other classes. Wishing her all the success in the world.
