Squamish's Jim Meyer, known locally as 'NASA Jim,' is in Florida celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch, which took place July 16, 1969.
Meyer is a former NASA employee who was involved in that launch, which saw the first two people land on the moon.
"I drove my 'Gray Ray,' 1969 Corvette, out to the Space Center to visit all the places I had worked over my 35 years at Kennedy Space Center, including Pad 39A where Apollo 11 was launched," Meyer told The Chief in an email from Florida.

Meyer will be attending an astronaut Corvette parade Saturday, July 13, followed by a street party in Cocoa Beach, which is located south of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The next day he'll be attending an Apollo 11 gala at the Astronaut Foundation at the Space Center with many astronauts in attendance, including Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
Meyer said he met Neil Armstrong once when he escorted him to the command module to participate in a launch rehearsal test on top of the Saturn V.
