If all goes according to plan, the wildfire burning at the 17.5-mile area of Squamish Valley Road, which began April 1 reportedly when a homeowner's slash fire got out of control, will be called officially out by the end of the week.
"We scanned the fire last week — on Wednesday — and our crews followed up on all the hotspots and we were able to get to those and work on them," said Donna MacPherson, information officer with the Coastal Fire Service.
"The intent is to scan the fire easily this week, weather permitting, and then we will see if we need to do any more on this or if we can call it out."
No crews were on the fire over the weekend.
"The fire itself received precipitation over the weekend."
The fire had reached 68 hectares a day after it was sparked.
On April 2, the fire came within 100 feet of a home.
Sprinklers were put on the house by the homeowner, which helped keep it from being burned, according to the fire service.
