After 29 years as a school trustee, and several years before, I have been on all School District committees, multiple municipal committees and several North Shore committees serving the school district and our community.

What are your school board priorities for the next term?

Next term I will continue my strong tradition of working to create a cohesive and effective working Board of Education, creating our shared Strategic Plan, advocating for programs that meet the community’s unique challenges with innovative solutions, focusing on advocacy for budget funding that meets the needs of our students, restoring out budget contingency to pre-Covid levels, create new partnerships  and partnerships with post-secondary to create better paths to academic, trades and creative programs for all students and working with public transit to expand school bus options for secondary students.

What do you think the biggest challenges in education today are, and how will you work to tackle them?

As with every term I have served the challenges are; to support the best education practises to improve student achievement, protect funding for the classroom and core services, skillfully manage the budget choices, listen to the community to improve our District, advocate to Victoria for funding that covers all our contract costs, find great new staff when openings exist, and support senior staff to do the most best possible job  for the district. I will work become the best possible board of trustees to provide effective leadership and governance.

Why do you want to serve as a trustee for the next four years?

Our schools are a wonderful place to learn and  grow up, with wonderful teachers, administrators and staff, with amazing support from parents and the community. My education and experience mean I understand the needs of students and the community and why a school trustee I have made a difference, managing the governance and improving public education and to advocate for the best from for our students. I will continue to honour the trust you have placed in me continuing the work of making Bowen Island Community School and the rest of our schools a great place to learn.
