Five things to do on Bowen this weekend

Remember to wear sunscreen this weekend as you run from Walk With Your Doc to the Farmer's Market to the clothing sale and beyond!

Enjoy some drinks and music:

Friday evening both Doc Morgan’s and Bowen Island Pub have music starting at 7 p.m. At Doc’s Amber Mae and Randy Francis are hosting an open mic night, while at the Bowen Island Pub the Snug Cove Blues Band will serenade you while you enjoy some of the pub’s dinner specials.

Peruse local produce:

Saturday morning is the first regular Farmer’s Market of the season.  Between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. the BICS parking lot will fill with fresh produce from local farms and gardens as well as homemade jams, baked goods, preserves, coffee, garden crafts, tea, seedlings, herbs, buskers and more!

Build a new wardrobe:

Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Big Annual Clothing Sale at Cates Hill Chapel will have rooms full of clothing and accessories at bargain prices. Admission is by donation to the Food Bank and all sale proceeds will benefit the Bowen Island Community School Parent Advisory Council.

Take a stroll:

It only takes 30 minutes of daily physical activity to start down the road to healthy living and minimize the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s. Get a start with Saturday’s Walk With Your Doc, starting in front of the library at 10 a.m. Stroll around the neighbourhood with local physicians and health care experts.

Take in a show:

The JUNO-nominated Marc Atkinson Trio is playing a Gypsy Jazz Concert at Cove Commons Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door and available at the Gallery at Cove Commons or online at thehearth.ca. For more information visit: marcatkinson.com.
