Bowen Island/Lions Bay case rate rises again

80 per cent of people 12 and over have at least one vaccine dose
Positivity rates North Shore June14
A map showing the geographic breakdown of positivity rates among those tested for COVID-19 infections in the Lower Mainland for the week ended June 12.

While case rates decline across the province, Bowen/Lions Bay is bucking the trend.

The Bowen Island/Lions Bay community health service area case rate rose again the week of June 7 to 14, according to BCCDC data.

With an average daily case rate of five people for every 100,000 (keep in mind this is a rate, not an actual number – the actual number average is about 0.25 cases every day), the area had the highest case rate on the North Shore region. The rate was also up from last week when the average daily case rate per 100,000 people was three. For several weeks before that, the case rate was zero.

All this being said, in the week ending June 12, the North Shore recorded the fewest cases since last summer. Only 21 cases were identified on the North Shore and just three of those were in the West Vancouver local health area (which includes Bowen and Lions Bay).

And as of June 14 on the vaccination front:

  • 80 per cent of people 12 and over have at least one vaccine dose (last week this number was 79);
  • 82 per cent of people 18 and over have at least one vaccine dose (last week this number was 81);
  • 86 per cent of people 50 and over have at least one vaccine dose (this is the same as last week).

The next Bowen vaccine clinic is June 19 at BICS.
