Bowen Islanders are raising funds for John Yamashita who, along with the Pratt family, lost his home and his belongings in last week's fire on Adams Road

"While at work, John received news from local RCMP that the suite above his had caught fire," writes Christine Caux, who started the GoFundMe campaign. "Due to water and smoke damage, John has had to leave almost everything behind.

"John is a first responder and looks after those in crisis but he now needs your help finding a new home amidst the pandemic and replacing his belongings," says Caux in the post.

Due to the damage to the home, Yamashita is also in need of a new place to rent. He is staying with friends for now but that can only last for so long. “My focus is on getting a rental,” said the islander of six years. “But Bowen’s market is just bare."

The GoFundMe for Yamashita has raised $4,100 of its $5,000 goal.
