Overload expected on Bowen Thursday morning ferry

It might be a struggle boarding the 7:30 am boat this June 9

If you're planning on travelling off-island this Thursday morning - specifically on the 7:30 am boat - there's a good chance you'll be in for a wait.

A group of about 60 students, staff and volunteers with Bowen Island Community School (BICS) will be on the 7:30 am ferry leaving Snug Cove en route to a track meet in Burnaby.

"BICS tries to avoid taking large groups on busy commuter ferry sailings but sometimes it is unavoidable," said school principal Scott Slater in an email to the Bowen Island Ferry Advisory Committee, shared with the Undercurrent.

Slater added that Capt. Darren Pereira, senior master on the Queen of Capilano, told him capacity cannot be increased for this sailing.

"Therefore, to avoid risk of overloads, it would be really helpful if ferry users with some flexibility avoid the June 9, 7:30 am sailing. Thank you!," writes Slater.

People with appointments off-island on Thursday are being recommended to plan accordingly. Ferries scheduled before and after this sailing leave at 6:20 am and 8:35 am.
