Photos: Bowen Pride Stride, Ride, & Picnic makes its debut

People were all decked out for Bowen's first public Pride event

It was a big turnout for the island’s first public Pride event during the Pride Stride, Ride & Picnic on June 1.

The Pride Ride, Stride & Picnic fell perfectly on the first day of Pride Month, drawing more than 220 people to morning activities at the Farmers Market, a parade through Snug Cove, and finally a community picnic at the Bowfest Field.

The fun started with activity tables at the Farmers Market which was followed by a colourful stroll (or ride) down the Multi-Use Path to the Bowfest Field. Once there, games, music, and of course food was on the menu for the rest of the day. The entire day of celebrations was a vibrant show of support for Bowen’s 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The volunteer-run event was made possible by funding from the Literacy Task Group, and supported by Bowen Island Community School Parent Advisory Committee, Bowen Island Farmers Market, Island Pacific School, Bowen Island Public Library, Knick Knack Nook, Village Baker, Tell Your Friends, Bowen Island Children’s Centre, and Qmunity.
