Bowen finds itself in the crosshairs of a pair of wind warnings set to arrive Wednesday and Thursday.
Environment Canada issued both alerts this afternoon (Jan. 4), beginning with strong gusts set to hit southern Howe Sound this evening. Outflow northerly winds of 70 to 90 km/h are being predicted to last into Thursday afternoon. A final blast of heavy southerly wind may take place tomorrow afternoon to conclude the outburst.
Around the same time the Howe Sound warning is set to end, a similar alert for the Strait of Georgia has been issued. Beginning in the late afternoon of Jan. 5 and continuing overnight into Friday, Jan. 6, equal 70 to 90 km/h winds are being predicted to sweep through the area.
Both warnings advise people to be aware of loose or flying objects, and to watch out for larger materials that could fall, such as signs or trees. Power outages are also a possibility.
