Here's three fun events you can check out on the island this weekend

Whether you like arts, sports, scavenging, or all three, there's lots happening on the island during this first weekend of August. 

Bowen Island Men's Fastpitch Tournament - Friday to Sunday

The annual tournament features 12 games over three days, starting with the opening showdown between the Diggers and Shakers on Friday at 6:30 pm. 

It's free to attend the tournament, with drinks and food available for purchase around the field. The championship game is on Sunday at 4:30 pm. 

Other scheduled games include: SATURDAY: Firemen vs Twins - 9 am; Cruisers vs Brewers - 10:45 am; Diggers vs Firemen - 12:30 pm; Twins vs Brewers - 2:15 pm; Shakers vs Cruisers - 4 pm; Diggers vs Twins - 5:45 pm.

SUNDAY: Shakers vs Brewers - 9 am; Firemen vs Cruisers - 10:45 am; Playoff #1 - 12:30 pm; Playoff #2 - 2:30 pm; Final - 4:30 pm. 

There's also nightly entertainment at the Pub after each day of games. Friday it's the Snug Cove Blues Band, Saturday The Jason Lane Band performs, and on Sunday the Tournament After Party wraps up the weekend.

Bowen Island Trail Society's Summer Scavenger Race - Saturday

Join the Bowen Island Trail Society (BITS) on Saturday morning at 9 am for a pair of fun and challenging orienteering and navigation events. 

Participants can choose from the Family Fun Race or the Enthusiastic Runner Race. The goal is to find as many checkpoints as possible in the allotted time, with prizes for winners in each category. 

The challenges are free for BITS members, and $15 for non-members. Email [email protected] to register and for more information. 

Write on Bowen Festival Gala - Saturday

On Saturday night Write on Bowen is hosting an evening of author readings, poetry, storytelling and other performances. The event begins at 6:30 pm at the Hearth Gallery/Library Annex.
