Bob Baker, the unofficial cultural liason to Bowen Island Community School, spent all of Thursday teaching students in each grade the Squamish language song Spakwus Slolem, The Eagle Song.

Last year, the inauguration of Donald Trump to the office of US president brought people across the globe, and on Bowen, to their feet to march for equality and women’s rights. Roughly fourty Bowen Islanders marched again on Saturday morning.

Commuters on the 7:30 ferry had reason to be happy this Wednesday, January 17, and so did the crew of the Bowen Queen: all cars were loaded onto the boat by 7:11am, with no overloads.

One of my first years here, we have a first birthday party. There are tiaras. I wear one and forget to take it off. Later, I go to the store, pharmacy, Snug... everywhere. No one says a word. I pick up a hitch-hiker.
