The Rotary Club of Bowen Island will be fundraising for two African community development assistance programs during Bowfest. Both are closely linked to local Bowen residents.

The Squamish River Watershed Society and the Bowen Island Fish and Wildlife Club will be conducting a Howe Sound Juvenile Chinook Salmon Study on Thursday, Aug. 25 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Pebbly Beach in Deep Bay.

I first discovered the band Said the Whale for a pretty mundane reason- I went to their concert to try and become friends with a girl from school without even really listening to their music.

They sit side by side in their home on Robinson Rd. Behind them, picture windows frame an expansive view over the Georgia Strait, with the mainland as backdrop.

This Sunday, Aug. 21, we will celebrate a summer social out on the lawn of the museum with great music, delicious food and refreshments, and a fundraising raffle.

While George and Sheila Hunter did not spend their working life as historians, the two island residents, who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June, are certainly knowledgeable about things Bowen.
