Dear Editor, How fortunate are we to have a community with no shortage of volunteer fire fighters, as I understand some communities have difficulty filling the requirement.

My son Arrian (Ari) is now in his 5th year of living on Bowen Island. Our family moved here when he was three years old and awaiting his diagnosis of Autism. Back then, Ari had no words and few gestures.

This week’s paper is my final paper with the Bowen Island Undercurrent. I asked Meribeth for a bit of space for me to write my thank you to the community.

The stress of the school year and all of those end of year activities is a distant memory now that we’ve hit mid-summer, but you may be getting to the point in the dog days when you’re looking forward to your kids getting back IN to structure.

If it wasn’t clear to begin with, what’s come in focus in recent weeks is that Bowen Islanders love living in the woods.

Dear Editor, I have been coming to Bowen through my entire life, since babyhood. My family has had a cabin here since the 1950s, and my husband, children and I now have our own place in Bluewater.
