Soccer fever is in the air thanks to the World Cup, such a perfect setting leading up to this years Bowen island Football Club’s annual SoccerFest celebration.

Roughly one-hour before Saturday morning’s 10:00 a.m. start, Race Officer John Culter decided that the nearly 140 sailboats competing in this year’s Round Bowen Race would head south off the roughly 1.5 kilometer start line just north of Snug Cove.

The 34km Round Bowen Challenge is our coast’s longest open water kayak race and is open to stand-up paddle boards, multiple categories of kayaks and outrigger canoes. The fastest time recorded was just last year at slightly under 2 1/2 hours.

All Bowen Island students who commute to school in West Vancouver have a longer day than their peers on the mainland, but for those who participate in school sports, their days are much longer.

On Saturday May 17, a full field of 64 golfers took to the Bowen Island Golf Course to compete for annual bragging rights and settle which community on Bowen Island's residents are the premier golfers.

Growing up on Bowen, I must admit, living on here has had its challenges: missing that incorrigible ferry has got my mood down more times that I care to admit.

Last weekend the Bowen Island Men’s Fast Pitch League opened with an exciting start to a promising season.

Ninety-nine percent of everything is just showing up! So… for all you toe-tappers and wanna be dancers, it’s time to get out and show up for swing lessons at the Gallery at Artisan Square on Monday Nights starting on April 28th.

With spring in the air and ski season coming to a close what better way to embrace the warmer weather than to get back on the water for a nice calming paddle.
