More proof that Bowen Island is a strong community comes in the news that three islanders have qualified for the B.C. Weightlifting Association's 2012 Provincial Championships.

This past Sunday, a group of Bowen Islanders stood amidst thousands of keen runners at the start of the Seattle Half Marathon, all of us buzzing with anticipation to pass by 21.2 km of the city's finest scenery.

An exciting final for the Bowen Island Football Club's coed soccer league saw teams Red and Orange battled it out on Sunday afternoon in the winds and rain.

Shawn Anderson, head coach of the Highlanders, has nothing but praise for the Bowen football players who came out to the game last Saturday.

This past weekend the Bowen Island Golf Club held the inaugural Paterson Cup matches. Much like the PGA Tour's Ryder Cup matches, this match play event pitted two teams against each other: team Grundy vs. team Liddicoat.

Just to provide a small qualification to the impressive headline, there were only three boats in the cruising division of this year's Vic-Maui Race and the cruisers did start a few days ahead of the main fleet of 11 boats.

The Bowen Island Yacht Club sent a record number of members to compete in the Commodore's Cup Regatta at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club last week as 16 sailors and three coaches took part in the August 28 to 30 races.
